Most of the networks we inherit were never designed

They grew. Someone added a switch when the ports ran out. A second wifi access point went in where the signal was weakest. The server room became a store cupboard. Cables were run by whoever was free that week.

It works, until it doesn’t. Then nobody can say why the wifi drops at half past eight, which cable goes where, or whether the backup has run since March. That is usually the point we get called.

We survey before we quote, we document what we build, and we label everything. It is not glamorous. It is the difference between a network you can fix in ten minutes and one that takes a day.
